F.A.Q.

…stands for “Frequently asked questions”. Here they are:

How can I participate?

We are very grateful for people willing to help. Please visit the “How to contribute” section for information.

How can i access the project’s files?

To distribute files we use a system called Subversion. Read the How-To we created here.

I created something nice! Where can i upload it and show it to you?

You can use the forum’s attachment function. It allows most picture file types and blender files.

If I participate, what are my benefits?

The formal benefits are a valueable feedback from experienced users, an entry in muffin’s “hall of fame” and in den credits of the resulting animation of course!
But probably the biggest benefit is that you get the chance to be part of a bigger production and cooperate with volunteers from all over the world. In the end it should be about enjoyment of creating computer graphics/animation/art, so jump on board!

Where is the story/storyboard? What do the characters look like?

Preproduction has not started yet, so there is no story finished. But thats good! This way you can bring in your ideas from the beginning on. But hurry up! Time won’t stand still!

I never touched a 3D animation software before. I’m pretty useless here, am I?

There are also other ways to contribute to the project (read them here), but you can use muffin to start learning new things and get guidance and feedback from more experienced users.

I double checked the task lists. Seems like there is nothing that suits me.

Since the list is updated frequently, check again later. You are also welcome to drop a note about your interests and what you want to do. We’ll inform you as soon as a task gets available. You may also consider doing tasks that are new for you. Never stop learning!

What about copyright/copyleft?

The whole production ( the final movies and the production files) will be released under the Creative Commons Attribution License.

Are those characters in the header graphic yours?

Clearly NO. The orange guy is Mancandy from Bassam Kurdali and the Rabbit is the main character from Big Buck Bunny, a Blender Foundation Movie ((c) copyright Blender Foundation | www.bigbuckbunny.org).

The reason why those characters are there is that they are a huge inspiration and they are distributed under a creative commons licence as well! I thought they (the characters) would love to have more alike characters around and therefore would do some posing with my muffin ;)
I plan to replace them, as soon as our own characters/sketches evolve.

Mancandy is a reference character that demonstrates how powerful Blenders rigging possibilities are. There is actually a DVD available for those who are interested.

The gorgeous movie Big Buck Bunny is also availabe as Blue-ray/DVD at the Blender e-shop.

Why is the project called Muffin?

Because muffins are very tasty. This is not going to be the title of the resulting animations, just a random project name :)

Where I come from “Open Muffin” could also mean…

psssst. Don’t you dare to talk about such things here ;)
I’m not a native speaker, so this is just coinsidence. I never meant to provoke by such an ambiguous crude meaning.

I’m already at the end of the FAQ list and still have no answer to my question!

Post your question as a comment and you’ll get the answer soon.

I do have a concept for a plot. Originally meant for a simple children’s book. But I’ve had no time to flush out the story apart from the basics and the main characters. I believe it would be perfect for this project, so long as the two primary characters keep their overall look. It also has potential (as planed) to expand into a series of different short stories centered around the main character.
NOTE me via DeviantArt if truly interested.
