The Characters

Currently (until June 6th) we are heading towards the character design finish line. We got a lot of good sketches and evaluated them together. Take a look at the polls and the results:

The final voting for all characters will begin on June 6th. Until then you can submit your final character design. As always, the winner will get announced on this blog and will receive all credits for his work.

Character design submissions rules

What we need is some clear designs that can be turned into a 3D model easily. To make this task easy please take a look at these rules:

It is explicitly allowed to use and rework the drawings that other people from this project already submitted. Feel free to improve things if you have an idea.
Include one drawing with gesture, mimic and perspective of your choice, that shows the essence of the characters look and spirit.
Include one front and one side view drawing of the character. The arms should stand sideways with the palms pointing down. Here’s an example:

optional: Include drawings of the characters face (or body too) where we can see him in different moods and with different facial expressions. If we can see that this character is capable of showing emotions, chances are higher your design gets chosen.
optional: Include detailed drawings of the characters head, clothing, assets or body parts where it is necessary or makes sense. For example the parts of the robot arm disassembled just to get the idea of how it moves.
Submit your design before the deadline! You can submit it in a new thread in the forums or by mailing it to me ( muffin at openmuffin.net ).

Please make sure the pictures you submit have sufficient a quality/resolution (~1000 pixels minimum length/height).

Character descriptions

Joe

Our main character and hero. He’s a young, lazy teenage boy who likes to hang around and play computer games all the day while eating junk food.

You’ll almost never see him cleaning his appartment and so it looks like a bomb exploded in there. Empty pizza boxes and old socks lying around everywhere.

Joe’s not materialistic. He’s happy with the few pennies he has, as long as it is enough for the next hamburger or computer game.

He may not be very clever, but he has a good heart. He could never harm a fly. Even though he doesn’t practice any sports, he’s not too fat and not very clumsy.

Most people would like to have Joe as a friend. He may be a bit lazy, but when it comes down to important things, you can count on him.

He doesn’t think too much about himself or how he may appear to others. Others think he is a bit primitive and dreamy.

Joe doesn’t have long term goals. At the moment the only thing that would be good in his life is some more cash for the little joys of life. Therefore he tries to get a job.

His greatest strength is that he is a connoisseur of the art of living. He lives for the day and somehow he always manages to get on, whatever gets in his way.

His flaw however is that he often doesn’t think twice before he does something. He often gets himself into trouble by hasty decisions.

Pizza chef

He is the hairy owner of a Pizza restaurant, about 45 years old, a bit overweight but also very tall and strong. He’s pretty strict to his employees and trusts hardly anyone. That’s the reason why delivery boys have to pass a test before they can work for him. He looks pretty angry and mad all the time. But once you know him a little better, you’ll see that he’s also very fair and understanding. Hard to imagine, but some say they already saw a smile on his face. But still a good advice: you better not mess it up with him, because he can get really uncomfortable.

Robot cop

He’s a giant machine built for one thing only: kicking people into jail who don’t obey the law. He usually waits beneath roads in standby mode and listens to his crime sensors.
You better not wake him up, because then you got really big problems.
He doesn’t need any weapons to do his job. He busts the toughtest criminals with his arms and some handcuffs only.
